Troubleshooting

Solutions for common issues you might encounter when using SitePx.

Permissions and Access

SitePx can't access my products or pages

Symptom: error messages about missing permissions.

Likely cause: app permissions may need updating after a Shopify scopes change.

Fix: go to Shopify Admin → Apps → SitePx and click “Update permissions” if prompted. If no prompt appears, uninstall and reinstall the app — your data is preserved.

I'm getting “Unauthorised” errors

Symptom: actions fail with authorisation errors.

Likely cause: your Shopify session may have expired.

Fix: refresh the page. If it persists, log out of Shopify and log back in.

Schema Issues

Schema isn't appearing on my storefront

Symptom: no JSON-LD visible in the page source.

Likely cause: the SitePx theme app embed isn't enabled.

Fix: go to your Shopify theme editor → App embeds → toggle SitePx on → Save.

Requires theme step

Schema injection requires the theme app embed to be enabled. This is the most common cause of missing schema.

Schema validation errors

Symptom: errors in Google's Rich Results Test.

Likely cause: required fields may be missing — for example, a product without a price or an article without an author.

Fix: ensure the underlying Shopify data is complete, then re-validate. SitePx highlights which fields are missing in the schema configuration view.

Duplicate schema warnings

Symptom: multiple schema blocks for the same type in the page source.

Likely cause: your theme outputs its own schema alongside SitePx's.

Fix: disable schema output in your theme (check your theme settings or contact your theme developer), or disable the conflicting type in SitePx. Using both simultaneously is not recommended as it can confuse search engines.

Google Search Console

No properties found during connection

Symptom: empty property list when connecting GSC.

Likely cause: the Google account you signed in with doesn't have Search Console properties, or doesn't have sufficient access.

Fix: ensure you're using the Google account that owns or has full access to your Search Console property.

GSC data stopped appearing

Symptom: graphs are empty or show old data.

Likely cause: your Google authorisation may have been revoked (e.g. after a password change or security review).

Fix: go to Settings → Google Search Console → Reconnect.

Verification keeps failing

Symptom: DNS or meta tag verification doesn't complete.

Likely cause: for DNS — propagation can take up to 48 hours. For meta tag — the tag may not be in the correct location.

Fix:

  • For DNS: verify your TXT record at a DNS lookup tool (e.g. Google Admin Toolbox) and wait for propagation.
  • For meta tag: check your theme's <head> section in the page source to confirm the tag is present.

Sitemap Issues

Hidden items still appear in the sitemap

Symptom: products or pages you marked as hidden still show up in the sitemap.

Likely cause: Shopify caches sitemaps and recrawls periodically.

Fix: wait 24–48 hours. Shopify will regenerate the sitemap on its next cycle.

Sitemap validation warnings

Symptom: warnings about sitemap structure.

Likely cause: usually related to Shopify's auto-generated sitemap, not something SitePx controls.

Fix: review which warnings relate to items you've configured versus Shopify defaults. SitePx's sitemap controls only affect visibility — they don't alter Shopify's sitemap structure.

Jobs and Processing

Jobs stuck in “Queued” status

Symptom: a job stays queued for more than 30 minutes.

Likely cause: queue congestion or a preceding job is taking longer than expected.

Fix: wait for current jobs to complete. If a job remains stuck for over an hour, contact support.

Jobs keep failing

Symptom: repeated failures on the same job.

Likely cause: could be a Shopify API issue, rate limiting, or invalid data.

Fix: check the error message for specifics. If it mentions rate limits, wait 10 minutes and retry. If it mentions data issues, check the affected product or page in Shopify.

Score not updating after optimisation

Symptom: SEO score stays the same after applying changes.

Likely cause: scores are cached.

Fix: use the “Refresh scores” button on the relevant listing page. Scores also auto-refresh after SitePx applies changes, but there may be a short delay.
